  • 18 November 2016: It was Nikolaos' turn to do his Public Talk: within the premises of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and in collaboration with The Wireless Networks (WiNe) research group.   • 25 November 2016: Giovanni followed the lead and introduced the project and his research subject: massive MIMO. Learn more about it reading his presentation here, and have a look at his picture here

  • 30 November 2016: Panagiotis took advantage of the Dr Robot workshop organized at the National Technical University of Athens to make his Public Talk about 5G technology & Ultra-dense Cellular Network Modelling. Watch his talk, or just look at the picture or the presentation.

  • 30 November 2016: In parallel, Merve presented the Performance of Multi-user Networks by Using OFDM with Index Modulation in her own Public Talk. Have a look at the abstract and see the pictures here. Read the presentation here.

  • 5 December 2016: Thanks to his paper called How Much Do Downlink Pilots Improve Cell-Free Massive MIMO?, Giovanni participated to the GLOBECOM conference, and did his presentation. Take a look at some pictures here and here. Nikolaos was there too, presenting his paper called Transmission Policies for Interference Management in Full-Duplex D2D Communication was accepted.   • 15 December 2016: The Mid-term Review Meeting took place at CNRS premises, allowing the whole consortium to gather for a 3rd plenary meeting and concord on the fact that the 5Gwireless project is well on track thanks to the active commitment of each and every member of the team. On that occasion, awards were attributed to our ESRs to acknowledge their dedication to the project. Click here to see the pictures.

  • 16 January 2017: Vedaprabhu started his secondment at Heriot-Watt university, in Scotland. He will be trained on spatial modulation MIMO and on mmWave beamforming. These training are intended to better account for the practical requirements necessary in the antenna design for Massive MIMO and mmWave directional antennas. This would enable their integration into HWU´s testbed. He will also attend courses about the principles of mobile communications and RF mobile communications.   • 1 - 3 February 2017: Zahid had the chance to do his Public Talk during the IRACON meeting, in the mark of a COST action, which is described as follows: "This COST Action aims at scientific breakthroughs by introducing novel design and analysis methods for the 5th-generation (5G) and beyond-5G radio communication networks." It took place in Lisbon, Portugal, and Zahid presented the Blockage Modelling for Evaluation of a 60 GHz Dense Small-Cell Network Performance, with an attendance of around 150 persons.   • 19-24 March: Zahid attented the 11th EuCAP conference (European Conference on Antennas and Propagation) together with his Siradel colleagues, and he presented a paper and also welcomed visitors at the Siradel booth. Read his paper here, which title is "Mixing Deterministic and Stochastic Propagation for Assessing MmWave Small-cell Networks", and read his presentation here. Click here to see the pictures.

  • 29 March: Yi just started his secondment at TTI premises, and the objective is to study the characteristics of antennas for mmWave (e.g., high-directional and large-scale) to account for their specific features during the measurement campaign and for subsequent channel modeling. Indeed, he will collaboratively study how the antenna pattern affects the state-of-the-art mmWave channel models, and start working together with Vedaprabhu about the multi-beam indoor base station mmWave channels.   • 3-6 April: The 2nd 5Gwireless training event has taken place at CNRS, providing the students with the opportunity of learning more about writing scientific papers and patents, and presentation techniques. These complementary courses lasted 4 days and were attended jointly by another project ESRs: the students from 5GAuRA. More details are given here.

  • 25 April: Shanshan and Thanh, from CNRS, and their supervisor Marco Di Renzo, participated to the Research Day organised by Labex DigiCosme, and listened to multiples talks related to digital worlds, among which "Stochastic Geometry Modeling for Large-Scale Networks" was given by Marco Di Renzo.   • 3 May: Panagiotis gave a Public Talk at the OTE Group telecommunications museum before students from a technical high school and visitors. The main subjects were MSCA ITN projects, 5G in general and his motivation towards this area, 5Gwireless and its objectives, and his part in the project.   • 4 May: Nikolaos gave a Public Talk at the Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC) to CTTC researchers of diverse research interests and to the undergraduate students of UPC Campus del Baix Llobregat. His talk was titled "Caching Techniques for the Future Cellular RAN" and introduced in simple terms the technology of caching to the attendants. Subsequently, he discussed the benefits of the application of caching techniques to 5G cellular networks, which has gained prominence recently, and presented his work from his recent journal publication on the topic. Here is the powerpoint.   • 10 May: Amin, Giovanni and Trinh went to the International Festival of Science  (Vetenskapsfestivalen): with hundreds of activities and about 70,000 visits, it is one of Europe’s leading popular science events and the only one of its kind in Sweden. The Science Festival aims at communicating science to schools and the general public in an easily accessible and stimulating way, as well as providing a meeting place for the research community. The goal is to promote a positive attitude to science and research, and to encourage higher studies. Amin, Giovanni and Trinh attended the most important event in the opening day of the public programme, i.e. the Science Communication Forum on May 10. The programme is available here. The Science Communication Forum focused on the public’s understanding of science and why people often embrace beliefs that are sharply at odds with the scientific evidence.   • 15 - 19 May: Shanshan, Thanh and and Marco Di Renzo attended the 15th International Symposium on Modeling and Optimization in Mobile, Ad Hoc, and Wireless Networks (WiOpt Conference), which took place at Télécom ParisTech. The scope of this conference was on all types of wireless networks: cellular, ad hoc, content-driven, delay-tolerant, mesh, metropolitan, sensor, cognitive, vehicular, robotic, Internet of Things, virtualized, etc. You can find the programme here and the slides of selected presentations here.

  • 17 - 19 May: Abdelrahman participated to the 2nd International Workshop on Competitive and Cooperative Approaches for 5G Networks collocated with European Wireless Day 2017 in Dresden, Germany. He had the opportunity to present a workshop paper entitled “Centralized and Distributed Optimum Power Control and Beam-forming in Network Flooding. You can read this paper here, the programme here and the picture here.

  • 20 May: Panagiotis did another Public Talk under the form of a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) activity to middle school students in Athens. He presented the background and history of wireless and 5G technologies, and also introduced the project and its goals. The 11 to 14 years old boys and girls had the opportunity to understand how a cellphone could access and send data trough wireless networks, and were explained what a European project was, and how it worked.   • 21 - 25 May: Trinh attended the IEEE International Conference on Communications in Paris. This conference exhibited an exciting technical program, complete with 13 Symposia highlighting recent progress in all major areas of communications. You can find the programme here and the pictures here.

  • 29 May - 1 June: Giovanni, Amin and Trinh gave Public Talks during the 2017 Joint IEEE SPS and EURASIP Summer School on Signal Processing for 5G Wireless Access, in Gothenburg, Sweden. The programme is available here. The Public Talk by Giovanni was “How much do downlink pilots improve cell-free massive MIMO?”. You can find his poster here, the pictures here and the video here. The Public Talk by Amin was “Joint power loading and mode selection for network-assisted device-to-device communication”, you can find his poster here, the pictures here and the video here. And the one by Trinh was “Joint Pilot Design and Uplink Power Allocation in Multi-Cell Massive MIMO Systems”, you can find the poster here, the pictures here and the video here

  • 8 June: Trinh, Amin and Giovanni, together with Professor Erik G Larsson, were interviewed in an article called “Smart communication making the world smaller” and published in the Linköping University Magazine. You can read the interview here or online here.

  • 15 June: Shanshan and Thanh from CNRS, under the supervision of Marco Di Renzo, participated to the Doctoral Students’ Day, organized by CentraleSupelec. They presented their research activities, Shanshan talked on “Modeling and performance evaluation of spatially-correlated multi-tier heterogeneous cellular networks” and Thanh on “Modeling and Analysis of Ultra-Dense Heterogeneous Cellular Networks by Using Stochastic Geometry”.   • 16 June: Merve participated to the Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften (Science Long Night) in Dresden, Germany. During this night, universities, laboratories and institutes open their doors and give scientific presentations, perform experiments and present their research activities. Merve presented a poster on “Marie Sklodowska Curie ITN and 5Gwireless Project” which attracted many visitors. You can see the poster here and the pictures here.

  • 26 - 30 June: Yi Tan went to the 13th International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Conference (IWCMC ’17) in Valencia, Spain. She presented her conference paper “Comparison of Stationarity Regions for Wireless Channels From 2 GHz to 30 GHz”. You can find this paper here, the programme here and the pictures here.

  • 28 June: Amin and Trinh attended a Swedish-Chinese collaboration 5G Workshop at Linkoping University. It was mentioned in an article called “Swedish-Chinese collaboration in 5G technology” and published in the Linköping University Magazine. You can read the article here or on the web here.

  • 11 July: 5GWireless ESRs and Marco Di Renzo as a speaker, attended the IEEE 5G Thessaloniki Summit in Greece. This Summit was part of a successful series of 5G Summits and contributed to continuous provision of a platform for the industry leaders, innovators, and researchers from the industry and academic community.   • 31 July - 3 August: Abdelrahman participated to the 26th International Conference on Computer Communication and Networks (ICCCN 2017) in Vancouver, Canada. He presented a paper entitled “Multi-flow Glossy: Physical-layer Network Coding Meets Embedded Wireless Systems". You can find this paper here and the programme here.
